We all know how important it is to keep our cars well maintained. Most of us would hardly contemplate driving our cars around until they run dry—with barely a drop of gas left or oil remaining. The reason?

Because it is common knowledge that taking good care of our cars is imperative to maintaining its usefulness and longevity, while also providing us with the best car driving experience possible.

To take this analogy a step further, if you do not take good care of your car and, you forget to rotate your tires, what can happen? They could eventually become bald, making for a very dangerous situation on the road.

My point? Most of us tend to be super vigilant when it comes to taking good care of our vehicles—ensuring that the oil is changed, tires rotated, wheels aligned—but what about maintaining our feet?

Why It’s Important to Care for your Feet

Your feet work extremely hard—enduring countless miles of running, jumping, and walking every day. Multiply this over the average lifespan of a person and you get the point. I would venture to guess that many of us put in far less time taking care of our feet as compared to the time and care that we take to maintain our vehicles.

Thankfully, there is a solution—a way to maintain and care for your feet that doesn’t consume an excessive amount of time, effort, or money. In fact, with just a few minutes a day you can develop a foot care routine that keeps your feet not only feeling great, but looking great too.

Get Soft, Smooth Feet in a Few Minutes a Day 

When starting a new habit or incorporating a new task into your routine, it’s important to keep it quick and easy. By investing just a few minutes a day to perform a “simple maintenance” routine on your feet, you can keep your heels and the soles of your feet looking and feeling great.

By incorporating our four simple tips, your feet can to carry you forward into the future in tip-top condition.

Fortunately, the regimen that we recommend does not require as much as time or money as maintaining a car, but the payoff could potentially be greater and even more rewarding.  

4-Step Foot Care Routine for Soft, Smooth Feet

When it comes to establishing a great foot care routine, there is an abundance of options. However, it’s mostly about creating a regimen that works best for you.

We recommend incorporating the following four quick and easy steps to get your best feet ever:

STEP 1 - FOOT SOAK

If your feet are super dry and in need of immediate help, you should consider starting with a relaxing but effective foot bath. For best results, we suggest adding a few tablespoons of Epsom salt to a warm foot tub. The Epsom salt will help to break down the dry, cracked skin, making it easier to remove.

Pro tip: Add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil to provide a pleasing and relaxing aroma while you soak.

 

STEP 2 - PUMICE STONE POLISH

Next, use a pumice stone regularly to buff away the dry, hard skin.

Apply your pumice stone to your heels, the balls of your feet and any other rough patches you may find. While you can buff your feet when they are dry, for best results we recommend applying a pumice stone either during or immediately after a bath or shower.

STEP 3 - MOISTURIZE

Apply oil or a concentrated cream regularly to keep your feet hydrated.

While we offer plenty of hydrating options in our shop, you would generally be well-served by using products made with natural ingredients that will not irritate your skin. This is especially important if you are prone to over-buffing which can leave your heels raw or tender.

To return to the vehicle metaphor—just like maintaining the oil in your car, applying moisture back to your skin is vital to keeping your feet hydrated and healthy.

 

STEP 4 - MAINTAIN

After buffing away the dry, cracked parts of your heels, maintain your smooth feet with our BHA Resurfacing Toner Pads.

Roots & Bloom’s BHA Resurfacing Toner Pads are ideal for preventing the reappearance of tough, dry skin on your feet. To use the Foot Toner, just apply one pad to your feet each day before bed and/or after your shower or bath. Allow one minute for the formulation to dry and absorb into your skin, then that’s it!
